Disney Cruise Memories

In December, my family and I went on our very first Disney cruise. There were laughs, there was anxiety, and there were amazing memories. Best of all, I got to see Frozen twice and Thor (part 2) in the on-board movie theatres. Since I never go to the movies anymore, that was a win for me.

We had planned this cruise over a year ago, and it seemed like FOREVER to get here, and wouldn’t you know, it was over likethat. What a bummer. But after 7 days of being on a cruise ship with lots and lots and LOTS of children, and crazily enough, not enough adults who wanted to party, Timmy and I were ready to return to our lives.

It was an easy enough 2 hour drive to Port Canaveral from Lakeland (this was pre-move). We checked in extremely fast, and got to our room, where we found this view.

Yes, this was our view the entire trip. Not bad.

Yes, this was our view the entire trip. Not bad.

Apparently, we had the most central, furthest back room on the boat. And you’d think we’d be blown out by engine noise, but that was truly not the case. We had no obstructing view, no pesky neighbors to see all our moves (they had to literally peer around the walls by climbing on the back wall), and the flag was only up when at port. It was incredible.

The rest of the cruise is what you think it would be. Lots of kids, lots of awesome food, lots of handing out of antibacterial wipes. The onboard entertainment was meh, but we’re also not 5 year olds, so that could have something to do with our lack of interest. I was able to workout consistently for the first time in over a year in a gym, which because of Lakeland, was like a Godsend. I actually managed to NOT gain weight, which is a victory for anyone on a cruise ship.

Although it wasn’t super fun for adults sans kids, Disney really outdid themselves. We were on the Fantasy, which was just unbelievable. The size, the space, the decor, from top to bottom, just brilliant. And the on-board tv cracked me up because one of the channels advertised various Disney things on a loop. One of the videos was of the Fantasy when it launched. I knew previously from FB that one of our high school friend’s family was featured in the commercial and his twin girls played a starring role. What I didn’t know was that the whole family was featured in the video on-board, so I got to see Justin, his wife, and twins about 700 times on that channel. It’s like we took the cruise with them.

The weather turned on us the last few days, so I wasn’t able to get as much sun as I would’ve liked. But it was such an incredible experience, to be able to travel with my family, see my nieces light up at all the Disney fun, and hang out with my loved ones. I would recommend it for anyone looking to have fun with their family with childcare they can trust and fun experiences for all ages.

We also did the port adventures, which were just freaking awesome. We rode with dolphins, pet baby sea turtles, drove high speed motor boats, snorkeled in the reef, and had the greatest time. Yes, I left that cruise more in debt than felt comfortable (really, when is it ever comfy) but God, I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. When I say that I practically wet my pants from laughter driving that motor boat…

I’ll leave you with a few pictures from that amazing week. It turns out I didn’t have as many pix of my twin nieces as I would’ve liked because they had some sort of averse reaction to being on a Disney cruise which left them completely unable to leave their mom’s side without melting down. Sad, but hey, I wasn’t going to push it. A clingy, not crying child is preferable to a crazy, tantrum child any day.

image

YOOOUUU GUUYYYSSSS!! Healthy Sex and You, the sexual health education blog that I’ve been running for two and a half years, has been listed as #95 on this amazing list of Top 100 Sex, Lust, and Love Blogs and Online Destinations!!

“This commendable list highlights the most influential and engaging bloggers who broadcast topics associated with sex, dating, relationships, and love. This list is part of STDcheck.com’s ongoing effort to emphasize the importance of healthy relationships and sexual practices”

As part of being in the top 100 (WHAT AN HONOR), each winner will receive $500 in gift cards. So you know what that means…

GIVEAWAYS TO MY LOYAL READERS AT HEALTHY SEX AND YOU and FROM PEACHES TO BEACHES!!!

Stay tuned for that and more! Again, what an honor to be included on this list. My hope is to remain true to the review:

“The fact that Healthy Sex and You is run by a sexual health educator adds to the decidedly authoritative feel of the blog, but in the best way possible. Rather than the questionable vibe of the many opinionated sex blogs out there, this blog feels like the wise advice of the coolest high school health teacher ever (you know, the one who keeps it real). Well-designed infographics, interesting articles from all over the web, and recurring features like Hump Day music posts combine to make a very cool site where education is the focus. This is the stuff that health classes should be made of: up-to-date information and an informal, non-judgmental safe haven for asking questions and learning about your body and sexuality.”

Thank you again to STDCheck.com! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy weekend!

10 Things I’ve Learned from Law & Order: SVU

As you know, I’ve been binging on Law & Order: SVU since I don’t have cable (best decision ever). I’m currently midway through Season 13, with only 1.5 seasons left before I’m caught up! Slightly pathetic, but hey, I own it.

Since I’ve been watching it nonstop, there are a few truths I’ve learned that I’d like to share with you.

1. Defense lawyers are the scum of the earth, unless you need one, and in that case, do whatever you need to do to get me off the charges.

2. Elliott Stabler is one of the sexiest men EVER, and he doesn’t make a lot of $, have fancy stuff, or have a super successful executive career. What makes him sexy is that he owns himself, and walks around like no one can touch him, which is a skill everyone should learn. True, he has a MASSIVE anger management problem, and that should never been ignored, but Good God is he yummy.

Try to resist me. Just try.

3. Ice-T’s opening credit picture has him making the exact same face every single season. Not that it’s hard because he’s not what we call a “wide-range” actor, but still impressive that he can make the same face nearly 11 years in a row.

4. Take pictures in sepia and you are automatically deep.

5. Don’t get involved with prosecutors on a romantic level. Somehow, all their relationships blow up in their face (poor Olivia) and you always have to hide some aspect of yourself from them because they’ll prosecute the hell out of you. Or they’ll sick the police on you, which just makes them a dickhead.

6. Police detectives never listen to their captain. Like, ever. Beware rogue detectives.

Why Won’t You Listen to Me?!?

7. If you work sex crimes, you never get a day off. Not a holiday, not ever. And sleep is a thing of the past because apparently you will get called ALL THE TIME for every crime ever. Seems like that should be illegal somehow, but that’s how it goes down for NYC SVU detectives.

8. Short hair is sexy on women. I don’t care how many hairstyles Olivia goes through, short hair is her best look.

9. Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) is the best psychiatrist on t.v. and desperately needs to be back on this show. I believe everything he says, 100%, no questions asked. So if you’re short, Asian, male, and gay, I trust you implicitly as a medical professional.

I will listen to everything you say and give you the most kick ass diagnosis because I’m good at what I do.

10. Medical Examiners can tell everything they want to know about someone’s death from bruising, DNA, and hair. You cannot get away with a crime as long as they have access to a lab and a microscope. Especially if your ME is a black woman. They get shit done.

Don’t mess with me, pedophiles. Just don’t.

Take it from me, I know what I’m talking about when it comes to this show.

P.S Happy Valentine’s Day (and Happy National Condom Day)! Have a safe and sexy day!

High Five for Friday

Today is yet another gloomy day in what is normally sunny, happy Florida weather. It doesn’t do much for my already sleep-deprived self, so I’m still trying to amp up the energy in anticipation for this weekend. It’s a St. Pete weekend and we’re celebrating Timmy’s 31st birthday! Last year’s 30th wasn’t exactly the birthday of dreams, so this time I’ve planned on so much more.

We’re having dinner on Saturday at a fancy restaurant on Beach Drive, which always peaked my curiosity every time I passed by on my daily walks last year. So pumped to go out and explore more of what this city has to offer.

Again, I’m still not heavy on the weekday action because I’m still binging on season 11 of Law & Order SVU. Until I’m done (I think it’s at season 14 currently), expect more boring stories. But, I’m pumped it’s Friday, and here’s why.

1.  I walked 10 miles this week. That’s awesome for obvious health reasons, but more so because I figured out that I can make my dog even more exhausted after a romping day at doggy daycare by making him walk with me. Cruel? Not so much. Genius? YES.

2. I revised my Belgian waffle recipe to include vanilla soy milk and WHAT A YUMMY DIFFERENCE. Sweet and thicker without being sugary and heavy. We have a staff breakfast potluck once a month, and I decided to try out a new recipe. I rocked it. Add chocolate chips and/or craisins, and I die.

3. Randomly, I got to hang out with one of my closest college friends on Saturday and it was completely unplanned. I was on FB and saw that Alex had checked into the Dali museum in downtown St. Pete and I immediately texted him. Turns out, he forgot I didn’t live in Atlanta anymore, and so we made plans to go out to dinner with another college friend and a new friend who lives in Tampa. We had a blast. We went to Bern’s Steakhouse, which was crazy amazing. The food was incredible and the place was cray cray. We were there for 2.5 hours, drinking, dining, and then eating dessert in their dessert room upstairs. Seriously, if you get a chance, save up and go there. We got a kitchen tour, wine cellar tour, and had a wonderful time. We also went out where the young people are, and I finally felt part of the world again.

4. Because I’m the best girlfriend in the world, I scored amazing tickets to 3 Braves Spring Training games in March for Timmy’s birthday. Their training games are held in Orlando, which makes it super convenient for him. He didn’t even have to ask. I’m good.

5. I was finally able to sell a home theatre amplifier on ebay after having to relist it 3 times. The first two times the price was clearly too high for bidders, then the 3rd time was the charm. It ended up selling at a higher price that I had originally listed it at the first time. Go figure. Now if someone will buy the matching speakers…

Hope you had an amazing week! Cheers to a fun birthday weekend celebrating the love of my life!
