For some people, wedding season starts and ends at clear times. For Timmy and I, it’s never ending. I say “season” with a smirk because truly, it’s year-round for us. Last year, we were invited to 13 and made it to 11. By Feb 2013, we had 8 already in the books for the rest of the year. We did have a little respite from November until March, which would’ve been more appreciated if not for the moving to another state, moving from two cities in FL, back and forths to Atlanta, and a hellish commute thrown in for good measure. But I’m not going to lie, if wedding season had to start back up again, it could not have been for a more amazing couple, Denise and Vinnie, and awesome wedding.
Join me, will you, as a I recap my friendship with Denise and how Timmy and I came to be at this first of many many MANY weddings of 2013.
I met my bestie Denise at NYU during our study abroad in London the summer before senior year. We hit it off immediately, along with her roomie at the time, Nikki, and the next year, the 3 of us were inseparable.
I had actually met Denise in my freshman orientation group the summer before college even started, but we never made it past then for some reason. Thinking back, how much did that suck for me?! We should’ve been friends from the beginning!! I could’ve had delicious home cooked Peruvian food for years thanks to her abuela (she is missed)!! I guess we’ll never know what it could’ve been like instead, *sniff, sniff*.
This wedding weekend was to celebrate Denise and Vinnie. My bestie Denise married her mestie (her man bestie) Vinnie, and they are incredible. They are both so cool, calm, collected. Really, the three Cs. I always feel like I smoked a joint after hanging out with them, that’s how chill they are.
So two weekends ago, we packed our bags in 86 degree weather and we traveled up to Westchester County, NY to the Tarrytown Estates to celebrate their wedding weekend, in 32 degree weather.
The Estate is amazeballs. Holy cow was it pretty. And it’s right next to Sleepy Hollow, which yes, does exist in real life! The rehearsal dinner was at Harvest on Hudson, and when I say the food was unreal, I’m not doing it justice. I didn’t really take any food pictures because I was so busy STUFFING my face full of it (that and champagne), but believe me, it was amazing. The location was gorgy too but it got dark fast and I couldn’t see outside to take nice pictures. It was a small, lovely event without a lot of hoopla and crap because Denise and Vinnie just aren’t those types of peeps, which is why I love them so.
So the wedding itself was a hit. And by hit I mean hilarious. The priest was quite similar to the priest in “Princess Bride” and we were cracking up at his quirky nature. He definitely said at a few points, loud and clear, “So, uh, you two feel like kissing!?!?” Hilarious.
Then we hightailed it back to the Tarrytown Estates for the reception, and it was snowing! I know for some of y’all, you’re totally over the snow. I remember a time in my life where I could say the same thing. Now, one flurry sends me into a state of crazy, over the top, childlike enthusiasm, so just humor me right now. And it was gorgeous, a white wedding. Absolutely perfect.
Once we settled in for some prosecco and food, the DJ started cranking up the hits, and it wouldn’t stop the whole night. I forgot to eat more than a plate of ceviche (which I definitely paid for the next morning, along with most of the wedding party) because I was on the dance floor pretty much the whole night. And I have this crazy bunch of amazing people to thank for that.
Another bonus to the weekend was that it was a mini London reunion again because our good friend Matt got to come up from DC for the wedding. He is hysterical, one of my most favorite people to hang out with. Don’t let his nerdy exterior trick you; he’s a cunning, sly, hip-hop loving, dancing machine. And he also paid dearly for all the delightful alcoholic beverages because he had to sleep on the NJ Turnpike on his way back to DC the next day, which is something I don’t encourage anyone to do.
So all in all, the weekend was an amazing success, and the beautiful couple danced their way into their honeymoon in Spain.
But not before this happened.
And this.
Honestly, we love you, Denise and Vinnie. You are an amazing couple and are going to change the world. Disclaimer: if you hurt her Vinnie, I will destroy you. LOVE YOU! 🙂
We really had a wonderful time and can’t wait for the rest of the weddings this year!
…I’m chuckling to myself because before I finished writing this post, I got word that we have two more weddings to add to the docket. No joke. No lie. We’re screwed.
♥, VB
good luck ever having a savings account with all of those weddings 😉
